Everton are in talks with Villarreal for Arnaut Danjuma as Frank Lampard searches for solutions to improve his forward line.

According to Carrusel Deportivo, Everton are in talks to explore the idea of signing Arnaut Danjuma from Villarreal this month. Frank Lampard is keen to shore up his attack in the window and possibly arrest the Toffees’ flailing form on the pitch.

Arnaut Danjuma was a bright player when he played for Bournemouth in England. Back then, many clubs noticed his talents, but following the Cherries’ relegation, they wanted to avoid taking the risk of signing the forward. The striker position is vital in the Premier League, and everyone wanted a more sure shot option.

Danjuma joined Villarreal and has proven his worth, resulting in new interest from the Premier League. Since the departure of former boss Unai Emery to Aston Villa, the Midlands side has held an interest. They are keen on a new forward but would want to sell Danny Ings first to free up funds and space.

Ings, incidentally, remains linked with Everton, who are currently holding talks with Villarreal for Danjuma. The 25-year-old attacker is seen as the ideal player to come in and shore up the Toffees’ front line. The club, as a whole, have struggled this season, and scoring goals has become their biggest problem.

Danjuma has had a decent return this season, scoring six times across all competitions for Villarreal. The 25-year-old attacker would be a welcome addition to Frank Lampard’s squad but needs a consistent presence of a centre-forward.

Since Richarlison’s departure, much of the burden fell to Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The latter is yet to convince with his overall fitness and Lampard has not been able to place his trust in the player completely. He is yet to get anywhere close to the form that attracted some of the biggest clubs towards him.

Moreover, the other options in the Everton frontline are yet to deliver, which resulted in them dropping down into the relegation zone. Lampard wants no repeat of their dogfight from last season and hence wants to use the January window to set his team correctly.

Talks with Villarreal will be positive news for their fans as Everton desperately craves a new forward to freshen up things. The finer details regarding finances are yet to come out, but it will be a loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

The move suits Everton considering their troubles with the FFP. Lampard will eye further such deals to shore up other areas of the squad, especially attacking midfield, considering the serious injury suffered by Alex Iwobi.
