Manchester United set to make move to sign Axel Disasi

Manchester United are reportedly plotting a move to sign 24-year-old French defender Axel Disasi from AS Monaco.

As per Tutto Mercato Web, Manchester United are planning to track the progress of AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi. The French defender has been one of the most promising prospects to have emerged from Ligue 1 in recent years.

Erik ten Hag has primarily preferred Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the Manchester United backline. And he recently used Luke Shaw as a makeshift centre-back despite the availability of Harry Maguire.

Amid uncertainty surrounding Maguire’s Manchester United future, calls have been made to the defender to leave Old Trafford for better opportunities on regular occasions. But given the current squad depth, ten Hag is unlikely to sanction his departure, as the 29-year-old is expected to be involved pretty heavily.

The English defender has recently been linked with a move to Aston Villa. But Maguire will likely stay at Old Trafford for the remainder of the season. Nevertheless, Manchester United remain in the market for a centre-back, with Disasi emerging on their radar.

Disasi can snuff out the danger pretty quickly and is an adept passer of the ball. So signing him will allow Manchester United United to play out from the back efficiently. At just 24 years of age, he has made significant progress, and bright days are ahead of him.

Disasi might need some rubbing and polishing to get used to the rugged nature of the Premier League. But the French defender has been touted as one of the most talented up-and-coming centre-backs who are ready to play at the very highest level.

He can also deputise on the right side of the defence. So his versatility is something which could be watched out for at Manchester United. The 24-year-old has a contract till 2025, meaning Monaco will not sell him for cheap. But the Red Devils are working on a deal to sign the youngster.

Manchester United will need to dig deep for another defender, possibly next summer. And the French international should be atop their list. Disasi was in France’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and even played for the whole 90 minutes in their defeat to Tunisia. Meanwhile, Tottenham are also believed to be courting his signature. But Manchester United are confident of getting a deal done if the right opportunity arrives.
