Manchester United are reportedly exploring a potential deal for AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi.

According to Daily Mail, Premier League giants Manchester United are interested in securing the services of AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi.

The 24-year-old got his first taste of senior football at Paris FC in 2015/16 before going on to establish himself as a regular at Reims. Disasi earned himself a move to Monaco in 2020 and has since cemented himself as a regular at the Stade Louis II.

Primarily a centre-back, the Frenchman is also capable of serving as an auxiliary right-back when needed. This versatility should hold him in good stead, should he move to the Premier League anytime soon.

Disasi is also a full international for the French national team and was part of the squad that made it to the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He is entering the prime of his career and continues to see his status soar in the game.

Manchester United have already initiated contact and appears to be in the initial stages of finalising a deal that will take the player to Old Trafford. With Disasi expected to leave Monaco in 2023, there is every reason to believe that the Red Devils have a real shot at landing their man.

The arrival of Lisandro Martinez last summer reinforced a Red Devils backline that has often been found wanting in recent years. Raphael Varane and Martinez provided ten Hag with two dependable options at centre-back. But the same cannot be said of Harry Maguire.

The Englishman has fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United. But it is unlikely that he will be shipped out in January. The fact that Luke Shaw was preferred ahead of him in recent weeks, indicates that Maguire’s time at Old Trafford might be coming to an end.

A no-nonsense player with excellent technical ability and aerial prowess, Disasi would be an adequate replacement for Maguire. With the Englishman likely to only depart in the summer, one could argue that a move for Disasi to Old Trafford is unlikely to occur this month.

However, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United among others also keen, it makes sense for the Red Devils to gain a head start. After all, they will not want another target stolen from under their noses by a direct competitor.
