Liverpool considering January move for Milan Skriniar

Liverpool are reportedly considering a January move for 27-year-old Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

According to a report by Italian outlet InterLive, Liverpool could make their move to sign 27-year-old Slovakian international Milan Skriniar from Serie A giants Inter Milan this month.

Apparently, Liverpool are looking to bring in defensive reinforcements following the injury to Virgil van Dijk. And they have identified the Inter Milan defender has as a potential target.

The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the best defenders around Europe, and he would prove to be a quality acquisition for Liverpool. Skriniar will be out of contract at the end of the season, and Inter Milan have not been able to agree on a contract extension with him yet.

The report from InterLive claims that the Serie A giants are willing to do everything in their power to tie him down to a new long-term deal. But the player has not accepted their offer yet. Therefore, a January sale is definitely on the cards amid interest from Liverpool and others. And it remains to be seen whether Liverpool can convince the Slovak to move to Anfield this month.

Virgil van Dijk recently picked up a hamstring problem, and he could be ruled out for several weeks. The Reds are chasing a top-four finish, and they cannot afford to weaken their squad right now. And recent reports claimed that they are preparing a contract offer for Skriniar.

The 27-year-old has the potential to step up in the absence of the Dutchman and tighten Liverpool up at the back. The Reds have been hugely disappointing defensively this season. And bringing in the right defensive reinforcements in January could help Liverpool salvage their season.

The Reds were recently beaten 3-1 by Brentford in the Premier League, and they were shambolic at the back. Liverpool have done well to improve their attacking unit by signing Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven. And the arrival of Skriniar can have a similar effect on their defence.

Furthermore, the 27-year-old’s contract situation means that he could be available for a reasonable price this month. Liverpool should look to do everything in their power to sign Skriniar in January, and the transfer could look like a bargain in the long run.

The defender is at the peak of his career right now and he has the technical and physical attributes to make an immediate impact in the Premier League. But it will be interesting to see if Serie A giants Inter Milan entertain any offers.
