Manchester United are in advanced talks with Crystal Palace over a loan move for goalkeeper Jack Butland in January.

As per the Telegraph, Manchester United are considering a short-term deal for Jack Butland for the remaining part of the season. Newcastle United’s sudden recall of Martin Dubravka has paved the way for the arrival of another shot-stopper at Old Trafford.

David de Gea’s recent performances once again proved his importance for the side and Erik ten Hag has been pretty satisfied with the way his plan has shaped so far.

But Dubravka’s departure has complicated his process as Tom Heaton doesn’t really have much football left in him and the Red Devils would require a new man to provide some competition for de Gea.

Butland was a part of the discussion last summer when United had been looking for a new goalkeeper and decided to rope in Dubravka on a loan deal. Butland has entered the last six months of his contract but it is expected Palace will extend his contract before parting ways on a temporary basis.

The 29-year-old has had significant experience in the Premier League having played for a couple of top-flight outfits. The English international already has an abode in Manchester since his Stoke City days and it would be a good opportunity for him to roll back his years.

Palace would have hoped to sweeten a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka by using Butland as leverage but the Red Devils will not entertain such discussions. United are also set to offer their Spanish number one a new contract offer but on reduced terms and the keeper recently expressed his happiness to continue his glowing career in Manchester.

“I’m very relaxed.

“I just focus on training, perform as best as I can. But, for sure, it’s going to end in a good way.

“I hope (to stay for the rest of my career). I was saying this is my club, I’ve been here many, many years and it’s a huge honour to be here and I’m so happy here.”

If the 32-year-old does remain as the number one choice the Red Devils might alter their plans to bring in a new keeper in the summer.
