Bayer Leverkusen forward Patrik Schick could be one of the options Manchester United could consider next summer.
As per Spanish outlet Fichajes, Patrik Schick is one of the candidates on the list of Manchester United’s probable target. The Red Devils are yet to bring in a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo since the player’s departure from the club recently.
Manchester United’s striker problem has been pretty evident as Erik ten Hag has mostly been dependent on his wide players for goals. The Dutch manager has preferred Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford through the middle at times but none of them is a natural centre forward which has been felt at times.
United have missed a lanky presence up top this season. They had been tailing Cody Gakpo for quite a long but the forward decided to pursue a move to Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven.
Schick signed a contract extension in the summer but he hasn’t been prolific this term. But the striker does have the quality and ability to thrive in English conditions.
Irrespective of their doings in January, the Red Devils are expected to spend significantly on a proper number nine. United’s longing for a new number nine has failed miserably with their past recruitments but the influence of ten Hag should prevent the club from repeating their mistakes.
Schick would be a natural fit for the Dutchman’s system and the manager too would love to combine with the player on a regular basis. But given his contractual obligation, he would command a higher fee than his contemporary strikers.
The 26-year-old has still a lot to offer and he hasn’t really hit the pinnacle of his career. United have shown signs of revival and they will need at least the next two transfer windows to stabilise their current setup. They are also in the January market to acquire the service of a striker for the remaining part of the season but for Schick, any deal would only be possible in the summer.
