Everton have made their move to land Manchester United star Anthony Elanga

According to Football Insider, Merseyside giants Everton have registered their interest in securing the services of Manchester United attacker Anthony Elanga.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and has made 45 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring four goals and assisting three more. Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, Elanga would add some much-needed dynamism to the Toffees frontline.

Frank Lampard’s side are struggling to stay out of the bottom three this season and look set for another protracted relegation survival battle. With just 13 goals scored in 17 Premier League games, it is evident where Everton’s problems lie.

They have failed to adequately replace Richarlison and find themselves struggling to find the back of the net. While Elanga isn’t necessarily a prolific player, he will give Lampard another option to throw on in attack when needed.

Elanga, for his part, is frustrated by the lack of opportunities at Old Trafford this season. Despite making 16 appearances this season across all competitions, Elanga has played a measly 497 minutes. To put it into context, it is less than six full games of football.

Good at holding up the ball and passing, Elanga possesses good intelligence and has shown himself capable of running into channels. Lampard will hope that the 20-year-old shows more of the same should he end up at Goodison Park.

However, Everton will not have it easy, and other teams are also interested in the Swedish winger. Everton have a history of doing business with the Red Devils and will hope that it counts for something when it comes to negotiations.

Elanga is a talented player who certainly has a future in the Premier League. However, it is debatable if the 20-year-old can make the cut at Old Trafford. Staying on the bench at the Theatre of Dreams is unlikely to improve his fortunes. A move to Goodison Park should regular football be put on the table would be a fine decision.

With a little over half the season to go, Everton still have time to turn their fortunes around. Whether Elanga will be one of the players to transform the club’s fortunes remains to be seen. Valued at £18 million, the Swede will not come cheap. Whether Everton can bring in a better alternative for the price is the question to ponder.

    He should be sold

  2. Colin Clarke says:

The question is why would United sell Elanga when they where short of front men before Ronaldo left and they haven’t replaced him yet. To sell Elanga now would leave United looking for two players at least. United have lost Greenwood, Cavani and Ronaldo. Martial is injury prone and it’s unfair to place all the responsibility on Rashford. Garnacho is still developing and Antony is still coming up to the pace of the PL, United need to get re-enforcements in before selling
