Arsenal have reportedly made a €70 million bid to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio, but the Italian giants want more.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal have made a staggering €70 million bid to convince Lazio for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in January. The Serbian midfielder is supposedly keen on leaving the Serie A club for a new adventure, possibly in the Premier League.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s name is a common fixture regarding links with Premier League clubs. For instance, Manchester United were perennially linked with the Serb for many years. But a move has yet to materialise. The midfielder continues to see his name in the papers, and this time, Arsenal are seeking his signature.
The Gunners sit at the top of the Premier League table and are now prime contenders to challenge for the title. Manchester City are their nearest rival, trailing Arsenal by seven points after the latest matchday. The currently-unrivalled position at the summit has put tremendous pressure on Mikel Arteta to improve the squad in January.
Arsenal want to improve the team and continue pursuing preferred targets in the current window. It may appear that signing a new striker to replace Gabriel Jesus is separate from their ideas. They might look to bring in a new winger and midfielder this month.
An improved bid for Mykhaylo Mudryk is on the cards, but there is an ongoing search underway for that new midfielder. Youri Tielemans remains one of their priorities. But the situation with Leicester City is proving more complicated than Arsenal expected.
For a while, Arsenal have remained interested in Milinkovic-Savic. Lazio’s high asking price has proved problematic to further the pursuit. Despite reports that they might struggle to compete with other clubs for the Serb, the Gunners are optimistic about getting this train ahead.
While they have remained in contact with the player’s entourage, specifically his agent Mateja Kezman, things have yet to move closer to the conclusion. Lazio are adamant over their asking price for the Serbian midfielder, something no club is willing to match up.
The report claims that Arsenal offered €70 million to sign Milinkovic-Savic. Lazio reportedly want at least €90 million to sanction a sale. Considering the Gunners are also likely to spend big on Mudryk before the window ends, it may seem improbable to see them splash significantly on only two players.
Arteta might see Milinkovic-Savic as someone who would improve the quality of the current squad. The Serbian midfielder’s experience and prowess in the attacking third could prove valuable in Arsenal’s bid to win the Premier League title.
As things stand, the Gunners are solely focused on signing Mudryk and remain open to spending big on the Ukrainian international. If an opportunity for Milinkovic-Savic arises, an approach from the north Londoners may happen.
