Newcastle United are watching Rennes’s 17-year-old French midfield sensation Desire Doue and could make a transfer approach.

According to Media Foot, Newcastle United are keeping tabs on the situation of Desire Doue at Rennes, intending to make a possible transfer approach. The 17-year-old French midfield sensation is a hot property in the Ligue 1 market, with several other sides monitoring him.

Desire Doue is one of the brightest prospects to come out of age-group football in France in recent months. The 17-year-old French midfield sensation broke into Rennes’s first team this season and got consistently picked to feature in starting lineups.

He has made 16 appearances across all competitions, including playing all but one of their Europa League group-stage games. He scored thrice during this period, and his overall gameplay has caught the eye of several interested parties.

Newcastle are keeping close tabs on the 17-year-old French midfield sensation’s situation. Eddie Howe is steadily looking across all sides of his squad and continues to build the optimum team for the future. The Magpies are currently third in the standings, but they could push for better things with further reinforcements.

Many expected Newcastle to spend heavily on top, established talents across England and the rest of the continent. Instead, Newcastle United have thus far adopted a very different approach. They have spent significantly in certain areas but have kept in line with the market rates.

Part of Howe’s strategy is to equip the team with young talents who are achievable in the transfer window. Newcastle have eyes on several youngsters, including Malo Gusto, in that respect and may opt to make approaches in the January transfer window. Desire Doue is one of the players they have kept tabs on, something they might advance during this month.

Rennes understood the magnitude of the 17-year-old French midfield sensation’s talents and promptly exercised their rights to extend his deal until 2025. It gives the Ligue 1 outfit some room for proper negotiations if clubs come in with an approach, which in this case could be Newcastle United.

Rennes might look for a fee similar to what Bayern Munich paid for Mathys Tel, which was around the €20 million mark. Desire Doue still has plenty in his profile that needs development, and the French club would hope for his stay. However, the lure of joining one of the big teams in the Premier League could entice him, and he may become open to leaving the Ligue 1 side.
