Real Madrid will reportedly need to fork out €60 million to sign Canadian striker Jonathan David from Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Ligue 1 giants Lille will demand between €50 million and €60 million for Jonathan David. The Canadian striker is a target for several high-profile clubs, including Real Madrid.
Jonathan David has been in Europe for nearly five years and has progressed considerably during this period. The 22-year-old rose to prominence at KAA Gent before joining LOSC Lille in August 2020. And he has established himself as one of the best strikers in Ligue 1 in the last two and a half years.
The Canadian international is enjoying a superb 2022/23 season, amassing 10 goals and four assists in 17 appearances thus far. And while David endured a poor campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he remains a hot property in the market. Several European bigwigs, including Real Madrid, are interested in the youngster.
Real Madrid will need a succession plan for Karim Benzema in the coming months. While the Frenchman has been in the form of his life since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, fitness issues have plagued him this season. So Real Madrid will have to be ready for life after Benzema.
Lille coach Paulo Fonseca: “It will be difficult to keep Jonathan David at the club next season. There are not many strikers with his skills & numbers in Europe… he’s just 22” 🇨🇦 #transfers

While the reigning La Liga champions have reached an agreement to sign Endrick, the Brazilian prodigy will not arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu until July 2024. So Real Madrid will need to enter the market for a striker in the summer transfer window. And with Mariano Diaz facing an uncertain future, David is a viable candidate to replace the out-of-favour striker.
The Merengues now know how much they will need to fork out to sign the 22-year-old from Lille. The Ligue 1 giants want between €50 million and €60 million for the young Canadian. And with the competition to sign the player intense, Lille might be able to recoup close to €60 million.
Several Premier League clubs are also keen on signing David. And it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can beat the competition to sign the youngster next year. For now, the player has emerged on the radar of Real Madrid over a possible summer move.
