La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly gained an advantage in the race to sign Josko Gvardiol, with Chelsea set to sign Benoit Badiashile.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Chelsea’s push to sign Benoit Badiashile has come as good news for Real Madrid. That is because the reigning La Liga champions have now secured an advantage in the race to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.
Josko Gvardiol has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the world in the last 18 months. The Croat has gone from strength to strength since joining RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb last year. And his stock has skyrocketed on the back of a splendid 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The 20-year-old was arguably the best defender at the World Cup and has unsurprisingly alerted several European bigwigs. And Gvardiol, who has turned out 65 times for Leipzig thus far, has become a target for Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Real Madrid will enter the market for a versatile defender next year amid uncertainties surrounding the future of Nacho. The veteran Spaniard has yet to sign a new contract with Los Blancos. And with Ferland Mendy’s future uncertain, Real Madrid will look to bring in someone like Gvardiol.
With the Croatian international capable of playing as a centre-back and a left-back, he is a viable target for Real Madrid. But the Merengues have faced stiff competition from Chelsea in the race to sign Gvardiol. And recent reports had even claimed that the Blues were the front-runners to sign the youngster.
But widespread reports suggest that Chelsea might soon sign Benoit Badiashile. The west London club recently submitted a bid to sign the AS Monaco defender. And with Chelsea concentrating on the young Frenchman, the reigning La Liga champions have gained an advantage in the race to sign Gvardiol.
While Jude Bellingham is Real Madrid’s priority for the summer transfer window, Gvardiol is also a top target. And it will be interesting to see if Los Blancos can pounce on the advantage gained from Chelsea’s interest in Badiashile.
