Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have taken note of Rennes forward Martin Terrier and could launch a swoop in January.
According to Media Foot, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Stade Rennais’ Martin Terrier. And the French club could be flooded with offers from the Premier League clubs for the 25-year-old.
For Manchester United, it has been a pretty topsy-and-turvy affair since the start of this season as a number of matters have complicated their situation both on and off the pitch. Cristiano Ronaldo’s untimely exit has left Erik ten Hag with very few options. In addition, Anthony Martial’s persistent injury issues have added to that set of problems.
Jadon Sancho has been given additional time off, and his return to action might take a but of time. The Red Devils also suffered a jolt as PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo is on the verge of joining Liverpool, who have reached an agreement over a January transfer.
Manchester United have targeted an out-and-out number nine, and Terrier has emerged as an option. The 25-year-old French forward has been Rennes’ main attacking outlet in the last couple of seasons. And very few players have had a smooth transition than him in Europe.
Primarily a left-winger the French attacker is also capable of leading the line and fits the criteria ten Hag has been demanding. But Manchester United will have to fend off stiff competition from Tottenham, who have been considering a summer move, to sign Terrier.
Antonio Conte will dig deep in the transfer market for another forward. Tottenham are currently overly reliant on Harry Kane, with Son Heung-min and Richarlison not being that prolific this season. Another striker could ease the burden from Kane’s shoulder, even though the Englishman has been impresive throughout the season.
Terrier has a contract till 2026, and the French club would need some real convincing to part ways with one of their most decorated players. But Manchester United and Tottenham have stepped up their interest by contact the 25-year-old and his entourage.
His agent has already sounded out a number of interested suitors, and Manchester United and Tottenham will be up for a possible bidding war. The French forward is likely to cost much less than the other available players, and his versatility also has made him an interesting prospect in the transfer market.
