Manchester United in talks with Joao Felix

Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are reportedly in talks with 23-year-old Portuguese international Joao Felix.

Fabrizio Romano has told Give Me Sport that Manchester United and Jorge Mendes have had many conversations about Joao Felix. The Portuguese international is valued at around £86 million by Atletico Madrid and could embark on a new adventure in the January transfer window.

Romano said, “In this case, it’s about the price because Man United have had many conversations with his agent, but at the moment there is no negotiation, no concrete negotiation because of the price.”

Joao Felix was once one of the most coveted young teenage prodigies in the world before Atletico Madrid signed him. The Spanish giants shelled out a nine-figure sum to land the 23-year-old a few years ago. But the player has not progressed as much as he would have liked between July 2019 and now.

The Portuguese international has endured a frustrating campaign thus far, as he is no longer an undisputed first-choice attacker. The youngster has started only nine of the 21 games played by Atletico Madrid this season. And Felix will likely depart from Civitas Metropolitano to embark on a new adventure in January. Such a situation has captured the attention of Manchester United.

Manchester United wanted to bolster the offensive unit by signing Cody Gakpo. But the Dutch attacker is set to join Liverpool after the Reds agreed to a deal with PSV Eindhoven. So Manchester United will have to identify alternatives, with Joao Felix being an option worth considering.

Recent reports have suggested that Jorge Mendes was set to hold talks with several suitors, including Manchester United. And Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Red Devils have had many conversations with the Portuguese super-agent. But his price tag, worth £86 million, might pose a problem for the Premier League outfit.

Widespread reports have suggested that Manchester United will only turn to the loan market for possible solutions. So they will unlikely shell out £86 million to sign Felix in January. And with Chelsea also looking to sign the Portuguese international on loan, Manchester United might possibly land him in a temporary deal.
