Tottenham plan on using a bargaining chip on their hands to reduce Pedro Porro’s asking price to around €30 million.

According to Sport Witness via Correio da Manha, Tottenham are planning to give up their sell-on clause for Marcus Edwards to reduce priority target Pedro Porro’s asking price. Spurs hope Sporting CP will reduce the price to around €30 million, which could prove suitable.

Tottenham are in the market for players to strengthen several key positions in the squad. One of those is the right wing-back slot, which has proved problematic for Antonio Conte since he arrived at the club. The Italian’s current options have underwhelmed, and he has earmarked the January window to bring change.

Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have not been up to the standards of Conte’s requirements. Meanwhile, summer arrival Djed Spence is yet to be deemed Premier League-worthy. Hence, Conte is keen on bringing a new player in the right wing-back slot, which remains Tottenham’s priority in January.

Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro is their primary target in the window, although his €45 million asking price could be problematic. The Portuguese side wants the north Londoners to trigger the release clause and take the full-back out of their hands; something Spurs are unwilling to do at this stage.

Having chased the Spaniard for quite some time, Spurs director Fabio Paratici took a personal interest in scouting the 23-year-old full-back. Even Conte is convinced of the choice and wants the club to move forward with an approach. Since they are unwilling to pay €45 million for him, Tottenham may have an ace up their sleeve.

Marcus Edwards, formerly of Tottenham, now plays for Sporting CP and has a market value of around €25 million. As Spurs continue to hold 50% of his sell-on fee, they will give that up to reduce Pedro Porro’s asking price.

Reports emerged that Tottenham could sign Pedro Porro for €30 million, which may become possible with the Edwards clause. Such a move may even benefit Sporting in their efforts to gain full control of the English forward’s future while cutting off a few millions from the full-back’s asking price.

Pedro Porro is reportedly keen on a move to Tottenham and may see his wish fulfilled if both clubs can strike an accord. The 23-year-old is Tottenham’s priority, and Conte may finally have his man in the coming days.
