Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly eyeing a surprising £30 million January move for Manchester United midfielder Fred.
As per a report by The Sun, Fred is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. There had been a sense of detachment this season, but Manchester United has moved to secure another year of his service by triggering the one-year extension option in his contract.
Fred joined Manchester United amid widespread fanfare as he cost a whopping £54 million when he was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk back in 2018. The Red Devils had hoped the midfielder would finally break the shackles this season under Erik ten Hag. But he has hardly been involved as the manager has mostly preferred Casemiro and Christian Eriksen as his primary midfielders.
But the former Ajax manager recently spoke highly of the player and praised his attitude despite the lack of starts since his arrival. The Brazilian midfielder had already entered the penultimate yet of his Manchester United contract, and he seemed to be on his way out from Old Trafford next summer.
But Manchester United have triggered the optional one-year contract extension, which was a bit of a surprising decision. But despite his limited game time, the Red Devils have protected his value. And they could have a valuable gain from this stance in the near future.
French giants PSG are believed to be interested in bringing the Brazilian international to Parc des Princes. And Manchester United’s £30 million price tag will unlikely put them off from making advances.
PSG also managed to steal Ander Herrera from Manchester United, and Fred could follow the path soon. The contract extension has been executed merely to get a good value for him in the transfer market. And this could be his last chance to sign up for a lucrative contract.
Recent reports have claimed that Manchester United are ready to offload Fred. Erik ten Hag upgraded the Manchester United squad with a number of signings in the summer. And the Red Devils will continue to overhaul their current entourage in the next few transfer windows.
Manchester United remain in the market for a midfield reinforcement amid interest in Enzo Fernandez. And the Red Devils are unlikely to stand in his way as they would consider themselves very lucky if they somehow manage to extract as much as their £30 million asking price for the midfielder.
