Manchester United have hijacked Liverpool’s move for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez following his successful World Cup campaign.

According to Bruno Andrade, Manchester United have overtaken Liverpool in the race to land Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The 21-year-old, who has a €120 million release clause, has emerged as the latest sensation in the transfer market.

Midfield is one area of concern that both Manchester United and Liverpool need to address very profusely. And Liverpool will have more urgency as the Reds are set to lose a significant amount of strength in the midfield department.

The likes of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are not expected to renew their stay. And the next summer transfer window could pave the way for a number of high-value arrivals. Fernandez’s stock has risen since his World Cup heroics. And Benfica would need his €120 million release clause to be paid in full if he does depart from Portuguese soil in near future.

Liverpool already brought in Darwin Nunez from the Portuguese giants to bolster their attack this past summer. And the Reds could further enhance their relationship by agreeing on a move for the young midfielder. But recent reports suggested that Benfica rejected Liverpool’s offer for the Argentine midfielder.

Meanwhile, Manchester United added both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen as per Erik ten Hag’s advice. In addition, they also triggered the one-year extension clause in Fred’s contract, meaning the Red Devils do not seem to have any slot left for another midfielder.

But their performances over the years have already demonstrated the urge to shore up the midfield with proper investments. And Enzo Fernandez could be the start of a new dawn at Manchester United. The Red Devils have now taken the lead ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign the World Cup winner.

The young midfielder is known for his break-up play and agility, while his passing range and positional sense can complement his ability. In Casemiro, Manchester United already have one of the best midfield destroyers in the business. But going forward, they would be needing someone who could be more robust in the middle of the pitch.

According to Bruno Andrade, discussions are in full swing between the two parties and Manchester United are said to be willing to pay up the €120 million release clause in full to disrupt the advantage being handed over to Liverpool.
