Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay in a cut-price deal in the January transfer window.
As per Sport Witness, Newcastle United are interested in a move for Barcelona’s Memphis Depay in January. The forward will be a free agent next summer and the Catalan giants want to make a profit from his sale.
The former Manchester United forward is keen to leave Camp Nou for a new challenge but will assess his options once he is back to his club duty. Depay was an important catalyst on Netherlands’s road to the quarterfinal in the World Cup where they lost to Argentina.
With Robert Lewandowski suspended for the next three games Xavi will have a chance to test Depay’s credentials once again and this could turn out to be a massive point in his career.
The Spanish giants haven’t completely wiped out their financial problems and they need to raise funds. Depay could be a source of income. The Dutch forward is still heralded as one of the most sensational attacking prospects and offloading him would open up space in their wage bill.
Newcastle have been on a rollercoaster ride in the Premier League as they have been fighting all the odds and have managed to keep themselves in the hunt for a Premier League title.
Eddie Howe wants some more options at his disposal as competition is about to get very complicated and they don’t want to lose their focus. The Magpies are ready to offer a whopping €20 million for Depay’s services but the player is yet to approve his departure.
It is suggested the player doesn’t want to leave in winter and wants to wait till the summer to explore more options. But the Spanish outfit wants to part ways with the player and could offer him a part of the transfer fee to facilitate a move as soon as possible.
Newcastle can fulfill Depay’s demands as their recent takeover will allow them to flex their financial muscle in the transfer market. They already had an overhaul in the summer and could undergo several changes next month.
