Manchester United and Arsenal are among the Premier League sides vying for Alexis Mac Allister ahead of the January window.
According to Fichajes, Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as a target for Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal. The duo need a midfielder with the qualities of the 23-year-old World Cup winner, but signing him in January from Brighton could prove to be a complex affair.
Alexis Mac Allister is having a dream season after becoming a World Champion. The midfielder’s consistent displays for Brighton over the last 18 months earned him a call-up into Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina side for Qatar, where he played a significant role.
Mac Allister scored one goal in the tournament and assisted another to Angel Di Maria in the Lusail Final, helping Argentina win the World Cup after beating France on penalties. His displays right from the start of the tournament meant he became a vital part of the team in all important knock-out games.
He has naturally attracted the attention of some of the top clubs in England, but signing him from Brighton could get tricky. Tottenham were keen, but they might need to wait to sign him as Brighton will remain uninterested in selling him before the summer.
Now, Manchester United and Arsenal have entered the chase for the 23-year-old World Cup winner. Erik ten Hag wants more players in his midfield and requires someone to organise things in the middle. The manager wants Bruno Fernandes to focus on creative duties and seeks someone to compete with Christian Eriksen.
Plenty of options are discussed for the new player, but Mac Allister would fit in like a glove for his busy style. His energetic presence would improve the overall quality of Manchester United on the pitch, something Ten Hag could approve of.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s desire for a new midfielder is no secret. Youri Tielemans is their priority target, with the Gunners reportedly willing to attempt an approach in January. Alternatively, they are looking at Mac Allister if they cannot get the Belgian in January.
Price-wise, Tielemans and Mac Allister are polar opposites, with the latter set to cost a vast fee considering his long contract with Brighton. Hence, bringing the 23-year-old World Cup winner could prove complex, especially in January.
