La Liga giants Villarreal are reportedly in the pole position to sign 19-year-old Spanish prodigy Pablo Torre on loan from Barcelona in January.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Pablo Torre is the subject of interest from Villarreal. And the Spanish giants are the front-runners to secure the services of the 19-year-old Barcelona prodigy on loan in the January transfer window.

Pablo Torre has been among the most highly-rated young attackers in Spain since making swift progress at Racing Santander. The Spanish whizkid rose through the ranks at the Cantabrian club before breaking into the first-team squad a couple of years ago. And he took no time to establish himself as a pivotal figure for Racing Santander despite his nascent years.

The 19-year-old invariably captured the attention of several Spanish bigwigs before Barcelona won the race to sign him. But Torre has slotted into the Catalan outfit’s reserve side while making sporadic appearances for the first team. And the youngster has already scored once despite only managing 108 minutes of game time.

But Torre needs to play regularly to continue the progress he enjoyed at Racing Santander. So a short-term loan spell in the second half of the 2022/23 season is on the cards for the teenager. And Villarreal will look to prise him away from Barcelona when the transfer window reopens in January.

Apart from Villarreal, two other La Liga clubs are keen on signing the Spaniard. But the Valencian giants are the front-runners to secure his services in the January transfer window. That is despite the sour relations between Quique Setien and Barcelona following the 64-year-old’s short and forgettable stint at their manager.

Nonetheless, Torre is a viable target for Villarreal, considering their inconsistencies in the final third this season. In addition, with several attackers linked with a January departure, the Yellow Submarine will need to delve into the market. And they are in the pole position to sign the Barcelona prodigy.

It will be interesting to see if the 19-year-old secures a short-term move to Villarreal in January. For now, it is clear that Torre needs a loan spell to continue his progress, as he will not feature prominently for Barcelona.
