Manchester United rival Newcastle United for James Maddison

Manchester United enters the chase for James Maddison and are ready to battle Newcastle United for his signature.

According to Give Me Sport, Manchester United are considering an approach for James Maddison after joining Newcastle United in the hint for the Leicester City star. The 26-year-old has had a promising start to his season, but his future at Leicester City hangs with uncertainty.

James Maddison’s call-up into the England setup was no surprise, given the attacking midfielder’s form before the break. After a disastrous start for Leicester City and their season, the England international was the reason for their revival, as they now sit in a place of safety.

Maddison notched seven goals and four assists in 14 games this season, and naturally, he is one of the in-form players in the league. So it was surprising that he remained at Leicester City despite the growing interest from some of the big English clubs.

Newcastle United were at the forefront of a transfer move. Eddie Howe remains a big fan of the 26-year-old Premier League star and has urged his club to remain open to signing Maddison.

The Magpies are willing to pay significantly to sign the attacking midfielder, with the project embarked under Howe could make Maddison feel special at this club, and the 26-year-old Premier League star could become a significant player at St James Park.

Maddison is reportedly considering making the switch, as Leicester remains aware of his reducing transfer value after the January window. Meanwhile, Manchester United are also ready to revive their interest in the England international.

Erik ten Hag is in the market for a new attacking player. Maddison is versatile enough to add terrific quality to this current squad. He will likely push the Red Devils to the next level. Still, the manager has to take a big call, considering they already have Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen in a similar position.

Fernandes has recently hit decent form and could see his position in the team threatened if Maddison is to join up. Whether Manchester United will readily pay considerable fees in January, remains to be seen. While the Red Devils are already in European competition, Maddison may feel Newcastle United could offer him the chance to play in the Champions League next season.

Moreover, the project under Howe is such that Maddison could become one of the main protagonists in the team, and hence his decision will make a big difference for the Magpies. Hence, the Leicester man may choose an ambitious project over a big side, where he runs the risk of struggling to nail down a starting place.
