Newcastle United are reportedly willing to fork out £60 million to land priority target James Maddison from Leicester City.
Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Newcastle United are prepared to sign James Maddison in the upcoming months. And the are looking to spend around £60 million on their priority target.
James Maddison has been a key player for Leicester City since joining the club from Norwich City. And his departure will come as a major blow for the Foxes. However, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder is one of the best in his position in the Premier League and deserves to play at a higher level. He has been linked with Liverpool as well.
Jones said, “Generally, they’ve been pretty careful with their spending. But they did splash out on Isak and they spent over £60million on him. I’m told that they would be willing to pay that for Maddison.”
Newcastle have an ambitious project and are the richest club in the world following the takeover. The Magpies will be expected to challenge for the major trophies soon and could play European football next season.
Newcastle United are currently third in the Premier League table, and Maddison is likely to be attracted to the idea of joining them if a concrete offer is presented. Maddison will add creativity, flair and goals in the final third. He will also introduce a new dimension to the Newcastle attack with his set-piece prowess.
Eddie Howe needs to improve his midfield options in the upcoming windows, and Maddison seems like a quality option. The 26-year-old has been in fine form this season, and he has seven goals and four assists in the Premier League.
Furthermore, he is well-settled in the Premier League and could make an immediate impact at Newcastle. The England international is at the peak of his powers and will be able to give his best years to Newcastle if the move goes through in the coming months. And with the Magpies ready to fork out the demanded £60 million on their top target, a move is on the cards.
It remains to be seen whether Leicester City are prepared to sanction his departure midway through the campaign. The Foxes are expected to lose another key midfielder in Youri Tielemans as well, as the Belgian prepares to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
