Chelsea considering Matheus Cunha move

Chelsea are eyeing up a move for the Atletico Madrid striker Matheus Cunha.

According to a report from Fichajes, Cunha is one of the few players on Chelsea’s wishlist ahead of the January transfer window.

The Blues are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements and the Brazilian could prove to be a useful addition. He has not been able to establish himself as an important player for the Spanish club and he needs to move on in search of regular game time.

Chelsea could provide him with the platform he needs and the Blues would benefit from his arrival as well.

Cunha would add cutting edge and creativity in the final third. He was outstanding in the Bundesliga before joining Atletico Madrid and the Chelsea fans will be hoping he can recapture that form if he moves to Stamford Bridge.

Apparently, several clubs are keen on the 23-year-old attacker and it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can beat the other clubs in the race for his signature.

Atletico Madrid are going through financial difficulties after crashing out of the Champions League in the group stages. They will need to sell some players in order to balance the books and Cunha is considered an expendable asset.

The likes of Joao Felix have been linked with moves as well.

Cunha needs to join a club where he will get regular first-team football and if Chelsea can provide him with such assurances, a move to Stamford Bridge would be ideal for him.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, and Hakim Ziyech have all been largely underwhelming this season and Cunha will look to hold down a regular starting berth at the London club.

The 23-year-old has started just twice in the Spanish League this season and he hasn’t started a single Champions League game for Atletico Madrid. He will be hungry to prove himself and his determination to succeed will be an added bonus for Chelsea.

The Blues will be hoping to get their season back on track after the World Cup and they will be eyeing a top-four finish.
