Liverpool could opt to sell Naby Keita in the winter transfer window if they fail to reach a conclusion regarding a new contract.

As per give me sport, Liverpool will consider offloading Naby Keita in January if the midfielder doesn’t agree to a contract extension. The Guinean international has entered the last six months of his contract and will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with any other club in January.

Keita arrived under much hype in 2018 as the Merseysiders shelled out more than £50 million for his services but the move has apparently not paid off because of the midfielder’s injury issues.

He has failed to remain fit for a longer period and Jurgen Klopp has lost his confidence in the player as it seems. He will still be handed more chances to prove his worth in the coming games and the manager might have a change of heart.

He played a bit part role in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss to Dubai in a friendly and could be included in the starting lineup against France on Friday. A number of interested suitors including Premier League side Newcastle United and West Ham United could be interested in a cut-price move next month.

He currently earns to the tune of £130,000 and the hierarchy is still interested to offer him a new deal. Talks over a new deal broke down in the summer and the club will assess their situation in the coming days.

Journalist Dharmesh Sheth believes there is a possibility of Keita leaving Anfield in January. “He has had his injury problems throughout his career at Liverpool.

“There have been links once more to a return to the Bundesliga, but he is with the Liverpool squad now in Dubai and he has resumed training with them.

“It is definitely one to keep an eye on because if Liverpool decide not to extend that contract, then there might even be business to be done in January.”

Liverpool have already been linked with Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat but they still need adequate cover in the midfield and if they could work out the Keita situation it could be a win-win situation for both parties.
