Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly hoping to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, a target for Liverpool, in January.

According to a report from Italian outlet La Repubblica, Tottenham are looking to open talks for Sofyan Amrabat. And the Fiorentina midfielder, also a target for Liverpool, will cost around €50 million.

The 26-year-old has been exceptional for Morocco at the ongoing World Cup, and he helped his country reach the semi-finals of the tournament. Amrabat has been a quality player for Fiorentina as well, and he would be a superb acquisition for Tottenham.

The player has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool as well. And it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can fend off the competition from the Reds and secure his services.

The reported €50 million asking price seems quite steep. But the 26-year-old has shown that he can be a quality player in the middle of the park. He is at the peak of his powers and would give his best years to the Premier League club if the move goes through.

Tottenham are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and Amrabat has emerged as a viable target as he can add some much-needed quality and depth to the squad.

Antonio Conte has had to overuse the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur this season because of the lack of rotational options in the midfield. The arrival of the 26-year-old Moroccan will allow the Tottenham manager to rotate his players and keep the squad fresh.

Furthermore, the 26-year-old Moroccan international can play as a defensive midfielder as well as a central midfielder. His versatility will be an added bonus for the north Londoners. Meanwhile, Liverpool need to add more quality to their midfield as well, especially with Jordan Henderson and James Milner struggling to perform at a high level this season.

Furthermore, players like Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have not been able to contribute significantly because of persistent injury problems. Signing a quality midfielder in January could transform Liverpool’s season, and the Reds should do everything in their power to sign Amrabat.

Both Tottenham and Liverpool are currently fighting for a place in the top four. And they will need to improve their squad in January in order to secure Champions League qualification. It will be interesting to see if either club can convince Fiorentina to sell Amrabat, whose €50 million price tag poses a problem.
