La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly called off the move for 22-year-old in-form Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.
According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Erling Haaland no longer remains a top target for Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions will prioritise bolstering other positions after securing an agreement to sign Brazilian prodigy Endrick.
Erling Haaland has established himself as one of the best strikers in the game since rising to prominence at Red Bull Salzburg three years ago. After a brilliant start to the 2019/20 season, the 22-year-old joined Borussia Dortmund. And after 30 months with the Bundesliga outfit, he joined Manchester City this past summer.
The Norwegian international has taken the Premier League by storm, scoring goals for fun with Manchester City. And Haaland has an incredible tally of 23 goals and three assists in 18 outings thus far this term. The player’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, as Real Madrid considered signing him.
Haaland had been on Real Madrid’s radar in the summer transfer window before joining Manchester City. But Los Blancos prioritised signing Kylian Mbappe instead, only for the French international to snub them and remain at Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Real Madrid remained interested in Haaland despite his move to Manchester City.
Widespread reports claimed that Real Madrid would be tracking the in-form 22-year-old striker at Manchester City. And despite his potentially eye-watering price tag, he remained a top target for Real Madrid. Many outlets even pointed out that Haaland had become the priority target to succeed Karim Benzema at Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, the Norwegian international will be available for around €180 million in 2024, which only a few clubs can afford. But while Real Madrid can pay that sum to sign the in-form striker, Haaland no longer remains a top target. That is because Endrick will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu in two years.
The reigning La Liga champions have reached an agreement to sign the Brazilian prodigy. And the 16-year-old will likely slot into the first-team squad immediately. So Real Madrid will have no open spot for Haaland, despite his status as one of the game’s best strikers. That comes as a boost for Manchester City, who will hope to keep hold of the 22-year-old for several years.
