Newcastle United are keen to offload at least four players in January as Eddie Howe eyes further quality reinforcements.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle United are looking to offload at least four existing players. Eddie Howe wants to make room to add new quality reinforcements either next month or over the summer window as the Magpies look to forge a challenging squad.

Newcastle United are getting the plaudits for their performances on both ends of the pitch this season. The Magpies currently sit in third place and are close to cementing a top-four spot this season if they are to continue with their impressive displays.

Many have suggested that Eddie Howe could steer them into a possible title challenge if the conditions are right. Newcastle United will be thinking about it and could look to sign new players to increase the overall quality of the current squad.

In hindsight, Newcastle’s squad is not considered thin by any means. However, they do not have quality depth to rely upon, and this would come across as the objective for Howe in the following windows. A few players are not up to the standards demanded by the manager and could depart in January.

Newcastle United may not particularly look for blockbuster sales to raise funds to facilitate other signings. Howe will consider a few critical decisions for the club’s short to mid-term future. The Magpies have done a fantastic job in the two windows after the Saudi-based takeover.

To make space in the squad, Howe may end up sanctioning a few sales of players that have been at the club for a long time. The report insists they could sell as many as four players, including captain Jamaal Lascelles, Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie, and Ryan Fraser.

None of those stars have played significantly and will likely bear no impact if they were to depart. Those stars have a decent standing with the Magpies supporters for helping the club retain its Premier League status.

These players can attract decent bids in the next window, and the Magpies could study what’s on offer and prepare for their departure. Once their sales conclude, it will be interesting to see who the club replaces them with.
