Liverpool have been linked with a move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, but they have cooled their interest in him.

A report from Caught Offside claims that Sander Berge has not had any discussions regarding a move with Liverpool. And Fabrizio Romano has added that the 24-year-old was on the Merseyside club’s radar two years ago.

The Norwegian international has done well for Sheffield United in the Championship. But it appears that Liverpool’s priorities are different at this stage. And transfer expert Fabrizio Romano believes that Berge will have to be more consistent to secure a move to a top Premier League club.

“At the moment it’s quiet situation, nothing imminent or advanced with any big club,” Romano said before continuing, “He was on Liverpool’s list two years ago, now it’s gone quiet and priorities are different. I think he’s very good player but needs to be more consistent to get a top move.”

It is no secret that Liverpool need to sign a quality central midfielder, and they have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks, including Berge. Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat and English international Jude Bellingham are reportedly on top of Liverpool’s wish list. And it will be interesting to see if Jurgen Klopp can bring in the duo over the next few weeks.

Amrabat has been outstanding at the 2022 FIFA World Cup and has guided Morocco to the semi-finals of the tournament. He has been a key player for Fiorentina as well, and it will be interesting to see whether the Italian outfit are prepared to sell him when the transfer window opens in January.

As far as Bellingham is considered, Borussia Dortmund are reportedly open to selling the player. But they will demand a fee of around €100-150 million. Clearly, Liverpool will have to break their transfer record to sign the 19-year-old, and it will be interesting to see how the situation evolves. But recent reports have claimed that the teenage prodigy wants to join Liverpool.

On the other hand, the 24-year-old Sander Berge would have been an inexpensive addition. He has played in the Premier League before with Sheffield United and could have been a quality squad player for Liverpool. Regardless of what the reports state, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool are prepared to come forward with an offer for Berge in the coming weeks.

Klopp needs to add more quality and depth to his midfield, especially with players like Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner expected to leave Liverpool when their contracts expire. Furthermore, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have not been at their best. Thiago Alcantara was the only reliable central midfielder at Liverpool in the first half of the season.
