Real Madrid reject chance to sign Marcus Thuram

La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly snubbed the opportunity to sign 25-year-old French international Marcus Thuram in a Bosman move next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid will not take up the offer to sign Marcus Thuram. Intermediaries had give Los Blancos a chance to land the 25-year-old French international. But they have other plans to bolster the offensive unit in the 2023 summer transfer window.

Marcus Thuram has made remarkable progress since moving abroad three and a half years ago. The player grew at FC Sochaux and Guingamp between 2015 and 2019. But the transfer to Bundesliga has worked wonders for his career despite a few fitness issues.

The 25-year-old is enjoying a superb 2022/23 campaign with Gladbach, amassing 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances thus far. But the French international has left the Bundesliga outfit in a spot of bother due to his contract situation. And the prospect of signing Thuram has alerted several clubs, with intermediaries offering him to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid will likely sign a versatile attacker in the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio. Apart from the duo, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are the only recognised attackers in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Hazard’s ill-fated stint with Real Madrid is nigh on ending amid his continued fitness woes. On the other hand, Asensio is in the final few months of his deal and has yet to sign a new contract. The duo’s departure will force Real Madrid to enter the market for an offensive reinforcement. But Los Blancos will not sign Marcus Thuram.

Even though the 25-year-old French international is in the form of his life, the Merengues have other plans for next summer. Several attackers, including Giovanni Reyna, are on Real Madrid’s radar. And Thuram will unlikely emerge in their plans, despite his impending free agent status.

But the 25-year-old French international does not have a shortage of suitors. Several English clubs are keen on signing Thuram, and it will be interesting to see where he lands in a Bosman move. For now, a move to Real Madrid seems improbable.
