Manchester United set sights on Alejandro Balde

Manchester United are keeping a tab on Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde, who is open to moving to Old Trafford.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester United could launch a surprise swoop for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde. The youngster has been in good form and is tipped to be Jordi Alba’s long-term successor.

Balde came through the famed La Masia academy and has done justice to his potential this season as Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has offered him a plethora of opportunities this campaign.

The 19-year-old has not shown any kind of fatigue, and his trickery on the left side of the Barcelona defence has alerted a number of clubs. The youngster has a contract till 2024. But with his stock already skyrocketing, Barcelona are keen on tying him down to a long-term deal.

The Blaugrana already have had contract talks in place. But keeping in mind their current financial status, the offer cannot breach the guidelines in La Liga. His breakout season already heralded him as a star at Camp Nou, and the Barcelona prodigy also has earned plaudits from his manager.

But the player recently revealed his adulation for Manchester United as he revealed his desire to play for them if he leaves Barcelona in the unforeseen future. The Red Devils would be aware of this development. But bringing in a left-back does not seem to be a priority for Erik ten Hag.

The Dutch manager already signed Tyrell Malacia, who is an understudy to Luke Shaw. Meanwhile, Brandon Williams can also chip in with useful contributions when needed. Shaw’s existing contract will expire next summer. But the player has a one-year extension option in his Manchester United contract. And given his recent form, he could spend at least another season at Old Trafford.

Interestingly, Shaw recently emerged on Barcelona’s radar. Meanwhile, Balde also can be utilised as a right-back. But ten Hag wants a more experienced right-back, and the Spanish international lacks that acumen. His instant impact also earned him a place in Spain’s World Cup squad. But La Roja lost Round of 16 tie with Morocco in the penalty shootout.

A new five-year deal could be agreed upon between the Barcelona prodigy and the club. And a new mammoth release clause should be inserted to block his future departure. So a move to Manchester United seems unlikely.
