Chelsea remains keen on Josip Juranovic as an option for the right-back after the defender’s performances at the World Cup.
According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea retains an interest in Jospip Juranovic and could move for the Croatian right-back following his impressive display at the World Cup. He might be a preferred long-term replacement for Cesar Azpilicueta.
Josip Juranovic’s name is steadily coming to the forefront after his heroic performances at the World Cup. The Croatian right-back has been a key part of Croatia’s run into the World Cup semifinal, as the defender put on another starring performance against Brazil.
Croatia endured the attacking quality of this Brazilian side and took the game to a penalty shootout. Juranovic played a key part against Japan in the round of 16 as well, and his stock has considerably increased.
With those displays, the right-back has fallen back on the radar of Chelsea, who were reportedly interested in the summer. The Blues were unsure about Cesar Azpilicueta’s future and were in the market looking for a replacement.
Chelsea had Juranovic on the radar in the summer, still the case now. https://t.co/3ipFUdGPaR

Juranovic’s name struck a chord, and the defender was a target. However, with Azpilicueta staying put and signing a short-term contract, they may have cooled their pursuit of the Croatian. Juranovic still has interest from other Premier League sides, but the Blues might have the upper hand in the chase.
Manchester United are also keeping tabs as per other reports, but Chelsea could look to tie up a deal for the experienced defender in January. The 27-year-old defender, currently on the books of Celtic, could make the switch if presented with an opportunity.
Chelsea are in an interesting phase of their rebuild by new owner Todd Boehly. They have already brought in a few exciting names while remaining linked with several other high-profile targets like Christopher Nkunku and Rafael Leao.
Juranovic still has a contract until 2026, which could compel Celtic to demand a significant sum if Chelsea are to approach. He would still be considered back up to Reece James in the pecking order at the Premier League side, but will still prove an interesting option.
