Newcastle United are believed to be interested in Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix but the youngster is keen on a move to Manchester United.
As per Football Transfers, Newcastle have set their sights on Joao Felix but the player wants to seal a transfer to Manchester United. The Atletico Madrid outcast could finally be set for a transfer in January.
Felix’s relationship with Atletico manager Diego Simeone has deteriorated as the season has progressed and the youngster has been a lone warrior these days at the Wanda Metropolitano.
His much-hyped transfer from Benfica hasn’t really paid off as the Portuguese has barely been involved in game-changing situations at the Spanish club. However, his promising performance in the World Cup should ease some pressure on the Rojiblancos who are searching for a potential party to offload the player.
They paid a whopping €126 million to acquire his service in 2019 and might have to take a big hit financially if they are to secure his departure. United will dip into the transfer market to bring in at least one player as they are eyeing a replacement to fill in the shoes of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite the arrival of Antony from Ajax in the summer, Erik ten Hag is still not satisfied with the attacking output and would at least fancy a player who could add a new dimension to his system.
On the other side, Newcastle have been on a rollercoaster ride and have already breached the top four in the Premier League. Eddie Howe’s forward line has fired pretty consistently but the manager wants to add a player with star value and Felix definitely has that advantage.
Still, his price could be a major issue for any club desiring a move. United could approach with an initial loan deal with an option to buy in the summer which should be affordable for them given their spending in the last window.
United have shown massive improvements under the tutelage of ten Hag and despite their recent shortcomings, they remain an interesting prospect for upcoming talents.
