Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge, valued at €20 million by Sheffield United.
According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, Liverpool are keen on signing 24-year-old Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge, who will cost around €20 million.
The Norwegian midfielder has a contract with the Championship club until the summer of 2024 and he could be available for a reasonable price of €20 million at the end of the season. Berge has impressed with his performances for Sheffield United this season, and he was quite impressive in the Premier League as well.
He was expected to complete a move to a Premier League club at the start of the season as well. Liverpool showed interest in Berge, but he ended up staying with the Blades.
It is no secret that Liverpool are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and Berge could prove to be a quality acquisition. He has already played in the Premier League and could settle in quickly and make an immediate impact at Anfield. Furthermore, the reported €20 million asking price seems quite reasonable for a player of his quality as well.
The 24-year-old is still quite young and is likely to improve further with experience. He could end up justifying the outlay and even proving to be a bargain in the long run.
Liverpool have had major issues in the middle of the park this season with a number of key players struggling with persistent injury problems. Some of their experienced players are struggling to hit top form as well and Klopp is under pressure to bring in quality midfielders at the end of the season.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham as well. The England international is likely to cost a lot of money, and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool can agree on a fee with the German club for his services.
Berge, on the other hand, will be an inexpensive addition. He could prove to be a useful squad player for Klopp and Liverpool. The opportunity to join the Merseyside giants is likely to be an attractive proposition for the player, and he could be tempted to move to Anfield at the end of the season.
Meanwhile, Premier League rivals Chelsea are keen on securing his services as well. The Blues could lose Jorginho and N’Golo Kante at the end of the season, and the 24-year-old could be a quality replacement.
Both Chelsea players will be out of contract at the end of the season and it remains to be seen whether Graham Potter’s side can agree on a deal with Sheffield United. Chelsea certainly have more financial resources compared to Liverpool. And it will be interesting to see if the Blues can fend off the competition from the Reds and secure his signature.
