Manchester United keen on Joao Moreira

Manchester United are monitoring the progress of Sao Paulo’s teenage right-back Joao Moreira.

As per Caught Offside, United are keeping a tab on youngster Joao Moreira who appears to have a very bright future. United are chasing a long-term understudy to Diogo Dalot and have already chalked up a number of names.

A new right-back has been their utmost priority as Dalot cannot be put at risk by exhausting his capacity. The Portuguese international has been Erik ten Hag’s preferred choice on the right side of the defence but needs to be managed properly.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka hasn’t been involved this campaign except for a couple of minutes in the Premier League and the former Crystal Palace defender could be on his way out in the January transfer window.

Dalot has also worked his magic on the international stage as he was involved in some capacity as Portugal sealed a quarterfinal date with Morocco. He has been ever-present for United this time but his current contract will be expiring next summer.

But the management is aware of the adulation he is getting currently and will open contract talks as soon as he returns from the World Cup. He was the find of former United manager Jose Mourinho who signed the player from Porto and United are reaping the dividends.

Moreira could be a similar addition as the teenager has shown patches of brilliance and could be a long-term investment. Ten Hag is building a team for the future and the Brazil-born defender could be one to watch.

He does have a pretty long-term contract but the England outfit could negotiate a suitable deal for them. The likes of Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford have formed a pretty young core for them and Moreira could only add more excitement to the squad.

It could be too soon for the player to feature on a regular basis on English soil and he might have to hone his skills through United’s famed academy. It remains to be seen whether they pursue the young defender or keep monitoring him for another few months.
