West Ham will have to pay over €20 million for Jakub Kiwior

West Ham United in advanced talks to sign Ibrahim Osman.

West Ham United will have to pay over €20 million to sign Jakub Kiwior from Spezia as the Polish defender’s stock rises.

According to Voce Giallorossa, as relayed by Sport Witness, West Ham United are still in the race for Jakub Kiwior and will have to pay over €20 million to land the defender. Many other clubs are keen on the Spezia centre-back, especially after some promising performances at the World Cup.

West Ham United were in the hunt for a centre-back during the summer and, at a point, made enquiries about Jakub Kiwior. The Spezia star rejected an approach from the Hammers and decided to stay with the Serie A club. The Polish defender may consider offers during the January window as interest mounts for his services.

After a decent first half of the season with Spezia, he has had a good World Cup. Kiwior featured in all four of Poland’s games in Qatar. Poland exited the competition after being knocked out by France in the Round of 16.

West Ham are keen to sign him in January as David Moyes eyes further defensive reinforcements. The Hammers’ boss will want to refresh his options from Craig Dawson and Angelo Ogbonna. Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd’s arrivals have strengthened the backline, but Moyes wants more additions.

The idea is to have a good stable of defenders, as the Hammers feature in multiple competitions. Moyes would want intense competition for places, which could benefit the team. West Ham were expected to submit a €15 million offer for the Serie A defender, but Spezia might demand significantly more.

The Serie A club want more than €20 million for the Polish international. Those figures would not represent a problem for the Hammers. They might want to wrap up a move sooner, as other clubs keep tabs on his situation.

The Hammers have also reportedly agreed on a deal with Sao Paulo for 20-year-old defender Luizao. The Kiwior pursuit might be independent and not concerned with the Luizao chase. If Moyes can sign the duo, then West Ham will have one of the best sets of young defenders.

The Hammers will remain in the chase for Kiwior and will need to find a way to convince the defender over a move. While the club has plenty of pull in the market, any other big Premier League side’s interest could become a problem for Moyes.
