Manchester United are ‘very serious’ about Cody Gakpo, with the club in contact with the PSV Eindhoven talisman’s representatives.
Fabrizio Romano has told Caught Offside that Manchester United are serious about pursuing Cody Gakpo as a transfer move could materialise in January. The Dutch forward has seen his stock rise after an impressive World Cup, and the Red Devils remain insistent on signing the attacker.
Cody Gakpo has silently taken the World Cup by storm with a few good performances for the Netherlands. The PSV attacker shone in a less-glamorous group but proved his efficiency with three goals in four games at the Qatar event.
The 23-year-old World Cup star has 18 goals and as many assists across all competitions for club and country this season. Those numbers are one of the best in Europe this term and certainly a factor to attract plenty of interest. With his performances in Qatar, the price tag of the forward has undoubtedly shot up.
PSV reportedly wants €75 million from suitors, and a few clubs intend to sign him. Manchester United are the overwhelming favourite to land the Dutchman. Erik ten Hag identified the forward late in the window, but Gakpo might have stayed at the Eredivisie side to prepare for the World Cup.

He remains the star name in the PSV side, and a January move could transpire for the 23-year-old World Cup star. Manchester United are confident about signing him, as Fabrizio Romano confirmed their interest.
Romano has insisted that Manchester United are ‘very serious’ about signing Gakpo. He says they are in contact with the player’s representatives. Talks have taken place at multiple levels, with Erik ten Hag seemingly keen on the attacker. The Red Devils could also pay a significant sum to land the forward, their primary target.
Manchester United have a few problems with consistency in their attacking lineup. Marcus Rashford has picked up form lately, but Jadon Sancho has recently been somewhat sidelined. The latter also missed out on a call-up to the England squad for the World Cup, as his form is a big worry for ten Hag.
The primary concern is the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gakpo could replace the Portuguese superstar. Manchester United look favourites to sign the 23-year-old, who could improve the club in the context of their season.
