Tottenham are unlikely to sign 26-year-old full-back Denzel Dumfries in January owing to his huge price tag.
According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham are unlikely to make a sensational move for Denzel Dumfries in January. The Dutch attacker remains a target for Antonio Conte, who may focus on more pressing needs next month owing to the Inter Milan star’s huge price tag.
Inter Milan signed Denzel Dumfries following the sale of Achraf Hakimi in a huge deal to PSG last year. The 26-year-old full-back has taken his time to evolve and adapt to Simone Inzaghi’s style and needs, as now he is one of the top right-backs in Serie A.
The Nerazzurri paid slightly over €14 million to sign him from PSV Eindhoven. That sum feels like a snip considering Inter Milan’s current valuation of the Netherlands international. The Italian giants want at least €60 million to part ways, with many clubs showing an interest.
Real Madrid reportedly hold an interest, while Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham are also keen. The 26-year-old full-back has attacking qualities found in only a handful of players in his position. Dumfries put in a masterclass performance against the USA during the World Cup Round of 16 clash, providing two assists and scoring a goal himself.
Tottenham have remained interested in signing Dumfries since the summer. They retain their admiration, but the 26-year-old full-back’s huge asking price could prove problematic for Antonio Conte. The Italian boss is utterly unsatisfied with the right-wing-back position and its incumbents.
Emerson Royal remains the first choice under Conte, but the Brazilian has put in a string of disappointing performances. Conte had also publicly underrated Matt Doherty while barely even considering summer arrival Djed Spence for the role.
For now, Conte could focus his efforts on strengthening other more essential areas of the pitch, including creative midfield and central defence. Spurs remained linked with several names in those positions but certainly considered signing a new right-back in the next window.
Dumfries will likely retain his value this season, and Inter Milan may consider making a big sale of the Dutchman if clubs retain their strong interest. For now, he is expected to stay put at the San Siro, and Spurs will likely go without signing a new player in that particular position.
