Manchester United are keen on Memphis Depay in January, with Erik ten Hag searching for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to Sport Witness via AS, Manchester United are the strongest contender for Memphis Depay. The Barcelona attacker will enter the final six months of his deal in January and will likely depart in January.

Memphis Depay is having a curious season for club and country. After a below-par season for Barcelona this term, the forward has been a shining presence for the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup. The 28-year-old will enter the final six months of his contract in January, which makes him an exciting option for many clubs.

He was inches away from leaving Barcelona on transfer deadline day at the end of August, but due to unwanted complications, he stayed put. With Depay’s contract on the brink, many top sides will look to take advantage of his situation.

Few reports insisted Barcelona wanted as much as €15 million for the Dutchman, but no club will likely pay those sums. In any case, Depay could be sure to depart in January, with Manchester United reportedly leading the race for his signature.

Erik ten Hag wants a new forward to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and may look no further than his compatriot Depay. Financially, he is a viable target, while the player himself might also have unfinished business at Old Trafford.

If Manchester United makes a reasonable offer, Barcelona will happily accept it in January. Depay’s departure could ease their financial situation, allowing room for a new attacking addition per Xavi’s specification.

The complicated part would not be Barcelona allowing Depay to depart, but sanctioning a deal with Manchester United. The two clubs face each other in the Europa League next year, and selling a top player to a direct European rival could hurt the Catalans.

That factor could derail any move to Manchester United, but the Premier League side are confident about the Dutch forward. For now, Depay will remain focused on the World Cup, but with the January window close, a decision on his future seems imminent.
