Manchester City and Liverpool do have an edge in the pursuit of Jude Bellingham who also attracted interest from Manchester United.

As reported by Caught Offside, journalist Fabrizio Romano believes that both Manchester City and Liverpool are pretty ahead of Manchester United in the race to land England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

The youngster has emerged as the new sensation as he already has proved his credentials by putting a stellar display in the World Cup. Dortmund are well aware of the threat caused by his excellent form and the player is expected to be in the midst of a bidding war next summer.

The 19-year-old would be one of the few England players who has maintained consistency in his performance and has only grown in his stature. Bellingham was again involved as the Three Lions eased past Senegal to set up a quarterfinal clash against France in the World Cup.

Liverpool will need to fill in their midfield with a couple of new entrants as the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to leave the club in the summer.

The club’s current midfield preference needs to be changed and Bellingham has been on the top of Jurgen Klopp’s list. A raw talent like him could be an ideal catalyst for his system and with the Reds struggling to get their juggernaut rolling it could further intensify their process.

Manchester City brought in Kalvin Phillips to bolster their options in the central midfield options but the midfielder hasn’t played much for them due to injury issues. Ilkay Gundogan might be in his last season in Manchester, while Kevin De Bruyne is edging towards the periphery of his form.

Manchester United, too, have watched him on several occasions as Erik ten Hag is still looking for that creator in the midfield. Bellingham has shown he can fulfil that role but the midfielder will be in severe demand and the Red Devils need to fight off interest from other clubs.

Romano feels Manchester United are still in the race. But both their Premier League competitors Liverpool and Chelsea are ahead of them.

“As far as I understand, it’s not that Manchester United are out of the race. They want Bellingham but they know Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid have different power on the market at this stage of their project. So Man United will try but they know it’s more than difficult. Focus now is on January, not on June yet.”
