Leeds United are on the verge of sealing their first transfer as Flamengo’s Brazilian forward Pedro could be on his way to the Premier League.
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, as relayed by Sports Witness, the Brazilian forward is being eyed by Leeds United and contacts could be finalised in the coming days as things stand.
Pedro came through the ranks at Fluminense and even had a failed stint with Fiorentina in Serie A. The forward went on to join Flamengo on a loan deal and after impressing on his native soil a permanent deal was reached last year.
He has also been with the Brazil squad in Qatar for the World Cup but has hardly been seen on the pitch. Leeds have done extensive research on the player’s ability and are pretty adamant to land their priority target.
Brazilians are known for that extra bit of flair in their trickery and the 25-year-old is no more an exception. He has had an exceptional season so far having been involved in 39 goal contributions for his club.
The Brazilian level of football cannot be compared with the European leagues but still one needs to have a certain kind of talent to pull this off and Pedro’s stock has been on the high since this campaign.
It is suggested the player has a release clause inserted in the contract which is in the region of £87 million. But Flamengo know no one would be ready to spend that kind of amount on an unearthed talent and therefore adjustments have to be done.
Ben Jacobs reiterated Leeds could be the one to keep an eye on when it comes to the transfer of Pedro.
“I think that the other name to keep an eye on from Leeds’ point of view is Pedro, who could obviously be very important for Brazil at this World Cup.
“He’s only 25 years of age, he’s only won a couple of caps for his country, but he was very impressive for Flamengo last season.
“Pretty much played 60-odd games and got either a goal or an assist in half of them and had a real breakthrough in the Copa Libertadores, especially where he scored double figures; almost a goal a game.”
