La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly ready to cash in on 25-year-old Spanish defender Jesus Vallejo in January.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jesus Vallejo might not be at Real Madrid for long. The reigning La Liga champions are ready to offload the 25-year-old defender, who has fallen to the bottom of the pecking order for centre-backs at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Jesus Vallejo has endured a frustrating stint since joining Real Madrid from Rayo Vallecano. The Spaniard was once one of the most promising young defenders in his homeland and was supposed to be the future of the Spanish national side. But his stock has plummeted since moving to Real Madrid.

The Spanish defender had arrived at Real Madrid as a prodigious 18-year-old ready to carve his legacy at the Santiago Bernabeu. But Vallejo’s best phases have come away from Real Madrid during his several loan spells. These include his temporary stints with Eintracht Frankfurt and Granada.

The 25-year-old has been with Real Madrid’s first team since his most recent loan spell at Granada ended last year. But Vallejo had endured a frustrating 2021/22 season before featuring prominently in the latter stages. And his fortunes have dwindled further in the first half of the ongoing campaign.

The Spaniard has managed only 17 minutes of game time thus far this season. And with Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao, David Alaba, and Nacho ahead in the pecking order, Vallejo’s prospects will unlikely improve at Real Madrid. And the Merengues are ready to cash in on him in the January transfer window.

The report does not mention any prospective suitors for the 25-year-old. But recent updates have pointed towards a few La Liga clubs being interested in Vallejo. Getafe and Espanyol, in particular, seem keen on signing the out-of-favour centre-back from Real Madrid.

For now, what seems certain is that Vallejo’s days at Real Madrid are numbered. It will be interesting to see if Getafe and Espanyol emerge as candidates to secure his services in January. And with Rafa Marin waiting in the wings, Real Madrid might not fret his departure much.
