La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly considering signing Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford in a Bosman move next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Marcus Rashford has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions are mulling over signing the versatile Manchester United attacker in a Bosman move in next summer’s transfer window.
Marcus Rashford has endured a topsy-turvy ride since Louis van Gaal fast-tracked him to the first-team squad half a dozen years ago. The English international was supposed to be the future of the Manchester United attack. But his inconsistencies have meant that he is only just starting to nail down his spot as a first-choice attacker.
The 25-year-old has been in fine form this season, with Erik ten Hag having a transformational effect on him. Rashford has eight goals and three assists in 19 appearances thus far. And he has been on a tear at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring thrice in as many games. But the player’s Manchester United future is up in the air, which has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
At Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti is sweating over the fitness of Karim Benzema. While the French striker was in the form of his life in the last four seasons, injury issues have plagued him this term. And if the problem persists, Real Madrid might need to seek an alternative for Benzema next summer.
That is because Erling Haaland is the priority target to succeed Benzema. But the Manchester City striker will not move to Real Madrid anytime before 2024 at the earliest. So signing a versatile attacker might be the way forward for Los Blancos, bringing Rashford into the picture.
Several other such attackers, including Mohammed Kudus, are on Real Madrid’s radar. But Rashford might be a better fit in Ancelotti’s system with his ability to play across the frontline. However, signing the versatile Manchester United attacker will not be easy, with the Red Devils looking to tie him to a long-term contract.
Recent reports have also claimed that Rashford is settled at Old Trafford and happy to extend his stay at Manchester United. So Real Madrid might have to look elsewhere to land an alternative for Benzema next summer. For now, the 25-year-old looks set to continue his stint with Manchester United.
