La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up on signing in-form Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet Record, Bruno Fernandes has emerged on the radar of Real Madrid again. The reigning La Liga champions want to sign the in-form Manchester United midfielder to bolster their creative options next year.
Bruno Fernandes began his professional career in Italy, passing through Novara, Udinese, and Sampdoria before joining Sporting CP. That is when his stock skyrocketed as he established himself as one of the most productive midfielders in Europe. And the 28-year-old completed his biggest move when Manchester United signed him nearly three years ago.
The Portuguese international hit the ground running at Old Trafford and has been Manchester United’s talisman in the last three years. And Bruno Fernandes has also been solid at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, grabbing two goals and two assists in two outings thus far. And the in-form midfielder’s progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
The reigning La Liga champions have had their sights set on Bruno Fernandes for years now. But with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos going from strength to strength, Real Madrid never needed to launch the offensive for the Manchester United playmaker. That has changed heading into next year.
Modric and Kroos are in the twilight of their respective careers. So Real Madrid will need to lay down a succession plan for the ageing midfield duo. Several midfielders have thus emerged on Los Blancos’ radar, with Jude Bellingham being their priority target. But the Englishman’s unrealistic price tag might stop Real Madrid from pursuing him.
So Real Madrid might need to identify alternatives for Bellingham, with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic being an option. And Bruno Fernandes is also a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions. Considering the Manchester United midfielder has shown the ability to play as a no. 8, he might be a long-term successor to Modric.
But Manchester United will likely put up strong resistance in the face of an approach from Real Madrid. And it will be interesting to see if the in-form Portuguese playmaker pushes for a move if the Merengues make an offer.
