Antonio Conte has made Alessandro Bastoni his top priority for January, but things are not simple with the defender.

According to Give Me Sport, Tottenham are keen on Alessandro Bastoni and wants to bring the defender on priority in January. Plenty of complications with the 23-year-old could prove tricky for Spurs to pursue the Inter Milan star.

Alessandro Bastoni is only 23 and is already likened to legendary Italian centre-back Alessandro Nesta. The Inter Milan star’s playing style and maturity have attracted plenty of clubs towards him. There’s considerable interest from the Premier League as a decision beckons for the Italian international.

Bastoni has a bright future ahead of him, and like many top-rated stars, a move to the Premier League might materialise. There’s no shortage of suitors from England. Tottenham, Real Madrid, and Manchester City keep tabs on his progress.

Inter Milan are keen to retain the 23-year-old Serie A ace’s services beyond 2024 when his current deal expires. They are willing to table a new, attractive offer and ready to leave the decision in Bastoni’s hands. If he refuses to extend, Inter will have no choice but to sell their prized asset, and January is when they could get the best possible value.

Tottenham’s interest is high in the 23-year-old Serie A ace since Antonio Conte took over as their manager. He has guided Spurs to their best start and remains fourth on the table. They have somehow maintained a Champions League place despite a terrible run of form.

While Conte is keen to bolster the squad further in January, he has done a fair job in the two windows since his arrival. While plenty of attacking and midfield players have arrived, the Italian boss is yet to sign a centre-back of his specifications.

From how things stand, he reportedly rates only Cristian Romero as a long-term option and wants at least two more centre-backs to bolster the team. Conte has reportedly placed Bastoni on his wishlist and could urge the club to sign the 23-year-old Serie A ace in January.

Reports of Bastoni’s lack of interest in joining Spurs emerged lately, but that may not be concrete. The complicated part about the transfer would be to sign him in January. Inter Milan are in the Champions League knockout phase, so there’s no great incentive for the 23-year-old to leave in this window.

Additionally, the presence and interest of other clubs, such as Manchester City, could push Tottenham down the pecking order in Bastoni’s list of suitors. Hence, while Spurs value the player and could pay the right price, they may not be his automatic choice in the Premier League.

Tottenham are still expected to attempt signing the defender when the new window opens. In any case, they have other targets in mind and could switch to an alternative if the signals with Bastoni are not positive.
