Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Manchester United want to sign Christian Pulisic, whose Chelsea future is in significant doubt.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United are vying for Christian Pulisic in January. The USMNT international is unhappy at Chelsea, with his future doubtful after the World Cup. Whether Chelsea are willing to sell him to their rivals remains a question.
Christian Pulisic has not had the greatest of times under current boss Graham Potter or former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. The German consistently preferred the USMNT attacker as an impact substitute, while Potter has not trusted him completely.
Pulisic has starred for the USMNT at the World Cup and won the MOTM against England in Qatar. His displays have alerted potential suitors ahead of the January transfer window, and a complicated move within the Premier League could materialise.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United are all keen on the Chelsea attacker. Whether they can convince the Blues and strike a deal remains the question.
Arsenal are in the market for a wide attacker, which is also the position Pulisic generally prefers to play in. While Mikel Arteta’s priority is Mykhaylo Mudryk, there could be complications with his price tag. In addition, Shakhtar Donetsk want around £88 million.
While the Gunners are confident of acquiring the Ukrainian international for a significantly lower fee, they may not look to drag the issue for long. Hence, it is no surprise that Arteta is looking at alternatives, and Pulisic could be under consideration.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are keen and willing to pay significantly for the player with 18 months left on his contract. Eddie Howe is looking to bring a top-class player into the equation for the second part of the season. The Magpies are in contention to finish in the top four, while there is a slight chance of battling for the title.
Howe has concerns over the depth of quality in wide areas, particularly with Allan Saint-Maximin’s fitness issues. While Miguel Almiron is performing admirably, someone with similar guile on the other flank would strengthen Newcastle’s cause.
Finally, there are Manchester United, who are closing in on Cody Gakpo. Erik ten Hag might see his compatriot as a striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. Meanwhile, there are significant concerns over the long-term prospects of Jadon Sancho, who has fallen out of favour since the Dutchman took over. Hence, Manchester United are interested in Pulisic over a January move.
Manchester United reportedly made enquiries in the summer, but Chelsea were uninterested. Whether the Blues have changed their stance is still being undetermined. Selling Pulisic to either of those three teams could prove disastrous for their chances of finishing in the top four.
