Liverpool are reportedly looking to bring in a marquee signing when the transfer window reopens in January.

According to a report from Football Insider, Liverpool have set aside a massive budget in order to pull off a club-record signing during the January transfer window. And Jude Bellingham remains on top of their wish list.

The 19-year-old Borussia Dortmund ace has established himself as one of the best young players in the world. He has been outstanding for England in the World Cup so far. Bellingham is already one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga, and he is showcasing his world-class potential at the international level now.

It is no wonder that the top clubs across Europe are looking to sign the player, and he has been linked with clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid.

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can fend off the competition and secure the midfielder’s services in the coming weeks. Recent reports have claimed that the Reds want to sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder in January.

A player of his ability deserves to play at the highest level, and a move to the Premier League could be an attractive proposition for the player. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp remains an admirer of the central midfielder, and he could help Bellingham fulfil his tremendous potential at Anfield.

However, the Reds have had a mediocre campaign so far and they will need to show that they are prepared to finish in the top four in order to attract elite talents like Bellingham. A player of his quality will not want to join a club without Champions League football.

The report from Football Insider claims that Liverpool have been laying the groundwork regarding a potential transfer for Bellingham. And it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to pay the massive asking price for the England international.

There have been rumours that Bellingham could cost anywhere between €100 million and €150 million. If he continues to impress in the World Cup, one would assume that Dortmund could raise the asking price.

There is no doubt that Liverpool would have to shatter their transfer record in order to sign a player of his quality. And it remains to be seen whether Fenway Sports Group are prepared to back the manager with substantial funds. For now, Liverpool are setting aside a “big sum” to sign a marquee player in January. And it will be interesting to see who that player is.
