Chelsea might have to shell to the tune of £280m if they are to bring in West Ham United’s Declan Rice and Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham in the summer.
As per Express, Chelsea will have to splash at least £280m to sign both Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in the summer. The Blues will undergo another summer overhaul as owner Todd Boehly will be sanctioning another whirlwind transfer window.
Both Rice and Bellingham will have significant suitors around them should their respective clubs allow their sale. The Blues have been in the market for midfield reinforcements and both midfielders are in contention to feature at Stamford Bridge next season.
But funding a move for each of them won’t be easy as a lot of finance will be involved in the proceedings. Both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho might end their current tenure as Chelsea players and the Premier League giants would need to replace them pretty efficiently.
Rice has rejected a new contract to commit further and the Hammers will be feeling the heat to decide the future course of action. He will enter the final year of his contract next summer and the club will be forced to cash in on him.
Chelsea passed on their chance to have Rice in their ranks earlier as the youngster had been at their academy for a brief period. Despite his contract nearing an end, West Ham will demand in excess of £100m for his services and only a willing party can have their say.
Jude Bellingham could have joined when he made inroads at Birmingham City. The Blues failed to convince the midfielder and he went on to join the German side for a meagre price.
It would be pretty hard to spend that kind of amount on only a couple of players as the west Londoners do have other concerns to address. Former Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has to be particularly blamed for not keeping Rice at the club as she used to be at the helm of transfer affairs and she sanctioned the Blues’ transfer decisions.
