Chelsea to monitor Jordan Pickford at the World Cup

Chelsea are reportedly interested in Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and will monitor the English international at the World Cup.

According to a report from The Sun, Chelsea will be monitoring Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the World Cup. And the Blues could make a move for the 28-year-old English international at the end of the season.

The report claims that the Chelsea hierarchy is not convinced with the quality of Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga. They are looking to bring in a quality replacement in the summer and Jordan Pickford has been identified as a potential target.

The Blues are reportedly keen on Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez as well. But the Spaniard is likely to command a huge fee, and Pickford could be a comparatively inexpensive addition. And Chelsea will monitor Pickford closely at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Apparently, Everton are going through financial issues. So the Toffees could look to sell the 28-year-old English international for a reasonable fee to get his massive wages off their books. Pickford has been the first-choice goalkeeper for England for a while now, and he has done quite well for Everton.

The 28-year-old is at the peak of his powers right now, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Chelsea. However, it will be quite surprising if the Blues decided to replace Kepa after the kind of season he is having.

The Spaniard had a poor start to life at Stamford Bridge, and he failed to justify the massive outlay on him. However, he seems to have regained his form and confidence this season, and he has kept Mendy on the bench for most of the season.

Mendy is nearing the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues have not been able to agree on an extension with him yet. Recent reports have claimed that Mendy is considering his future with Chelsea.

The Senegalese goalkeeper’s departure certainly makes sense, because he is no longer a key starter for Graham Potter at Chelsea. However, the Blues must look to hold on to Kepa and then bring in an able understudy.

As far as Pickford is concerned, a move to Stamford Bridge would be a step up in his career, and the 28-year-old England international is likely to be tempted if a concrete offer is presented in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea will step up interest in Pickford after tracking him at the World Cup.
