Leicester City are confident that Youri Tielemans will sign a contract extension, which would be a blow to Arsenal’s chances of signing the Belgian.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal could suffer a blow in pursuing Youri Tielemans as the midfielder could extend his deal. Leicester City grows in confidence regarding the Belgian’s future beyond the summer of 2023.

Youri Tielemans was one of the sought-after players in the summer transfer window. Clubs, however, preferred to wait for the best possible opportunity. With a year remaining on his Leicester City contract, the Belgian was the subject of interest from Premier League sides like Arsenal and Liverpool.

Yet, none of those clubs thought it wise to pay Leicester’s £25 million asking price. Those teams may have considered tabling a cut-price offer in January or snatching the Belgian on a free transfer after the season. With the 25-year-old Premier League midfielder, such a prospect is possible, but Leicester has other ideas.

There’s considerable interest in Tielemans ahead of the January window. Liverpool are one of the teams considering approaching, and so are Arsenal. The north Londoners remained favourites before the season.

Arsenal retains an interest, and Tielemans remains keen on joining the north Londoners. The Gunners might have pushed for a January deal, but Granit Xhaka’s form might let them postpone the Tielemans move until the summer.

Leicester remains confident that Tielemans will extend his contract before the season ends. The 25-year-old Premier League midfielder could sign a pre-contract agreement with suitors from abroad. Such a move could let him leave for free, and Leicester will receive nothing in return.

The Leicester hierarchy are in constant communication with Tielemans’ entourage. Moreover, the team’s current form also encouraged and boosted the club’s overall mood. While those may not be markers for the 25-year-old Premier League midfielder to sign a new deal, the Foxes remain encouraged.

It will come as a blow for Arsenal in their pursuit of the midfielder. If Edu Gaspar, who became Arsenal’s first-ever Sporting Director, makes an offer, things could swing back in their favour. Tielemans will remain focused on the World Cup campaign in Qatar with Belgium, and many clubs could watch him in action.
