Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly joined Manchester United in the pursuit of Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as a serious contender for Joao Felix, joining Manchester United in his pursuit. The Portuguese international has had very limited game time this season and is currently looking for new opportunities outside Atletico.
Atletico Madrid spent nine-figure sum in transfer fee to bring in the boy wonder from Benfica in 2019. But things have not shaped the way they would have hoped.
Felix is yet to hit the pinnacle in his Atletico Madrid career, and it seems manager Diego Simeone is already planning to replace him at the Civitas Metropolitano. The Portuguese forward has received only five call-ups from the start in La Liga this term, and recent indications have showed he is desperate to leave the Spanish club.
There have been moments when the youngster vented his frustration by kicking the bench. But it won’t deny the fact that he is still one of the most highly-rated young players in Europe certainly.
PSG’s prospects of landing the player are a bit difficult as the French giants have some financial implications and would not be able to afford his transfer fee straightaway. They are already bearing the hefty wages of Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi. And adding another candidate in the line would be a tough job for PSG.
Les Parisiens could ask for an initial loan deal with an option to buy next summer. But Atletico Madrid might not entertain that offer as they would prefer to have the money paid upfront,
Felix somewhat revived his fortunes in the last two games. But it will unlikely help him win his place back in the starting lineup. The Portuguese international has been linked with a move for the last couple of seasons. But this time a transfer looks to be pretty realistic.
Manchester United are destined to bid a golden handshake with Cristiano Ronaldo following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. And proceedings regarding his removal might already have started. The Red Devils will evaluate his terms for breaching the contract, and the club wants to have a smooth transition.
Joao Felix could be his ideal replacement as the Portuguese international would definitely like to have a different challenge in the Premier League. Having signed a contract until 2026, Felix could command another record-breaking transfer fee. So a move in January to either Manchester United or PSG seems complicated.
