Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed in an explosive interview that he feels betrayed by the club.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, as relayed by ESPN, Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed that he was betrayed by the club. The 37-year-old added he has no respect for manager Erik ten Hag, who has disrespected him.

Cristiano Ronaldo has had a difficult time at Old Trafford this season. He has been a squad player for the Red Devils, and it is clear that he is not a key part of Erik ten Hag’s plans at the club.

There were rumours that the player wanted to leave the club during the summer transfer window. But Ronaldo has now revealed that it was Manchester United who were trying to push him out of Old Trafford. The Portuguese international also revealed that certain people around the club did not want him to return to Old Trafford.

“Manchester United tried to force me out,” he said.

“Not only the manager, but the other two or three guys who are around the club [at the senior executive level]. I felt betrayed. I don’t care, people should listen to the truth. Yes, I felt betrayed. I feel that some people didn’t want me here, not only this year but last season too.”

Ronaldo was recently suspended by Manchester for refusing to come on as a substitute against Tottenham Hotspur. He had a falling out with the manager ten Hag as well.

The 37-year-old has claimed that it is impossible for him to respect someone who does not reciprocate that. He also added that a club of Manchester United’s stature should not have appointed a manager like Ralf Rangnick prior to the arrival of Ten Hag.

“I don’t have respect for him [Ten Hag] because he doesn’t show respect for me,” Ronaldo said.

“If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”

Finally, the 37-year-old revealed that a club of Manchester United’s stature should not be on the path they are on and they deserve much better.

“The progress was zero. Since Sir Alex left, I saw no evolution in the club. Nothing had changed. He [Ferguson] knows better than anybody that the club is not on the path they deserve to be.”

Ronaldo will be out of contract at the end of this season, and he is set to move on as a free agent. Before that, the player will be heading to the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Portugal, and he will be looking to make his mark in the marquee event, which could well be his last World Cup with his country.
